Summary
A vulnerability in the VPN web services component of Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting attack against a browser accessing an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary HTML or script code in the browser in the context of the VPN web server.
Details
| Severity | Base Score | CVE |
|---|---|---|
| MEDIUM | 6.1 | CVE-2026-20070 |
Exploitation
An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user to follow a link to a malicious website designed to submit malicious input to the affected application. The attack requires user interaction, as the user must click on the link for the exploit to be successful. Once the user is redirected to the malicious site, the attacker can execute arbitrary code in the user’s browser.
Affected Products
- Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance Software: Vulnerable to XSS attacks via improper input validation.
- Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software: Also susceptible to the same XSS vulnerability due to similar web service components.
Mitigation
To mitigate this vulnerability, users should ensure that they do not click on untrusted links and should keep their software updated to the latest versions provided by Cisco. Additionally, implementing web application firewalls and input validation can help reduce the risk of such attacks.
