Product:
Cisco Secure Firewall
Summary
A vulnerability in the OSPF protocol of Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software could allow an unauthenticated, adjacent attacker to corrupt memory on an affected device, resulting in a denial of service condition. This vulnerability is due to memory corruption when parsing OSPF protocol packets. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause memory corruption causing the affected device to reboot.
Details
| Severity | Base Score | CVE |
|---|---|---|
| MEDIUM | 6.1 | CVE-2026-20023 |
Exploitation
An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted OSPF packets to an affected device. The attack requires the attacker to be on the adjacent network, and due to the high attack complexity, it may require specific conditions to be met for successful exploitation. If successful, the attacker can cause the device to reboot, leading to a denial of service condition.
Affected Products
- Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance Software: Vulnerable to OSPF protocol memory corruption.
- Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software: Also vulnerable to the same OSPF protocol issue.
Mitigation
To mitigate this vulnerability, it is recommended to apply the latest security patches provided by Cisco for the affected products. Additionally, network segmentation and monitoring for unusual OSPF traffic can help reduce the risk of exploitation.
